In this module, we talk about the tools and processes for conducting distance visual acuity screenings for preschool- and school-age children. Thank you for your interest in helping children see better by identifying potential vision issues and ensuring that the children who need care receive a timely diagnosis and treatment.
Objectives
Once you’ve completed this module, you will be able to:
- Define distance visual acuity and its importance in assessing children's vision
- Differentiate between critical line and full threshold methods of distance visual acuity screening, including their advantages and limitations
- Apply age-appropriate and evidence-based tools and procedures when conducting distance visual acuity screenings for preschool- and school-aged children
- Demonstrate the correct procedures for administering distance visual acuity tests using both critical line and full threshold approaches
- Apply age-appropriate modifications and techniques when conducting visual acuity screenings
- Explain the scoring and interpretation of visual acuity results using both critical line and full threshold methods
